Insuladd® Home Insulation Methods and Alternatives

Home Insulation Methods and Alternatives

An explanation of Home insulation and alternatives for improving your home insulation.

Home insulating is commonly available in 3 types: rolled fiberglass with a paper or foil backing, foam sheets or panels, and loose blown in place home insulation. All of these are "resistance types of insulation since they" resist" the passage of heat. These types of home insulation products are rated in their effectiveness by the term "R-value which relates to how effective the materials are in "slowing down" the passage of heat. The higher the R-value the more effective the material is as slowing down the passage of heat. Please note that heat ALWAYS travels toward cold! Cold does not come into your house! It is the fact that heat has left your house that makes it feel cold in the winter. This trend is reversed in the summer when outside heat travels through the walls and ceilings of your home into the cooler interior.

INSULADD insulating paints and insulating paint additives provide homeowners with a 4th method of insulating their homes which is by creating a radiant barrier in the paint and "reflecting heat" and thus substantially reducing the amount of heat trying to enter or exit your home.

Once you have determined the area of your home that you want to insulate, you need to determine the appropriate home insulation R-factor for it. R-factor requirements will vary depending upon where you live and what particular area of a room you are insulating. The more home insulation that you have the lower your heating and cooling bills will be.

For example, in warmer climates 2"x4" wall construction is more prevalent, whereas in colder climates 2"x6" wall construction is more common. Walls constructed using 2"x4" studs can only support rolled insulation with an R-value of R-13, where as walls constructed with 2"x6" studs can support rolled insulation with an R-Value of R-19.

The other type of home insulation product is the INSULADD radiant barrier insulating paint and the INSULADD insulating paint additive which you mix into ordinary house paint. These products reflect heat instead of resisting it. You can easily incorporate this type of radiant barrier home insulation to any structure since it is applied as paint.

INSULADD home insulation products do not have R-values since they are reflectors of heat and not resistors of heat as are fiberglass insulation products however their effectiveness can be the same or even greater than resistance type home insulation.

By painting your ceilings, interior and exterior walls with INSULADD insulating paint, INSULADD Radiant Barrier primer/undercoater, or using INSULADD insulating paint additive with your own paint you can greatly enhance the effective R-value of the surface that you paint. This has proven to be a very inexpensive way and in many cases the only way to improve the energy efficiency of your existing home insulation.

By reflecting heat from the surface to which the INSULADD insulating paints or insulating paint additives have been applied the standard home insulation in your walls or ceilings will be more efficient since they will effectively have less heat loading to deal with.

INSULADD home insulating products: Don't just paint, Insulate your home as you paint!

A few weeks ago we received a call from Lockheed Martin about some heat related problems in a project that they were working on. After discussing the basic problem and without being given any specifics as to what the actual application was we decided to send Lockheed Martin some Insuladd® Insulating Additive for paint since we felt that it would solve their problem.

Thank you for your contribution to the Raptor flight Test!

Yesterdays mail brought the above photograph from the F-22 Combined Test Force at Edwards Air Force Base with a note saying "Thank you for your contribution to the 'Raptor' flight Test!".

Projects like this give all of us here at Tech Traders Inc. pride in our products and show that they really do what we and others say they do!
